Window Well Drain Clogged
Yesterday a customer sent us an email asking the following question, and we thought we’d share it with you:
Dear Drain Rescue,
I read your blog all the time, and have used your company on a couple different occasions. I am having a problem with my window well. The window well drain is clogged and I was wondering if you have any do-it-yourself suggestions I could use to improve the situation while I’m away on vacation. Once I get back from Jamaica, I’ll book an appointment and let teh professionals take over.
Thank you. Any suggestions are welcome.
Sincerely,
Nancy Travis-Meyers
Well, Nancy, we’re glad you sent us that inquiry. Window wells usually get filled up after heavy rains. Homeowners need to learn how to properly clean them, and that way they can embrace their window wells instead of complaining about them.
Window wells are important because they are preventative maintenance against moisture damage to basement windows. If you didn’t have them the moisture would work away at the windows and eventually make it’s way through and into your basement.
If your window well drain is clogged the easy solution is to remove the drain and clear it out yourlsef. However, if the drain is completely blocked and not draining to the weeping tile. If the window well drain is blocked that much then you may require a small excavation to replace the damaged piping.
We hope this answer will help you out, Nancy. And if you need help with your window well, feel free to contact us or give us a call at 1-800-568-7359
