Squidoo Plumbing Lens

Drain Rescue is happy to announce that we are expanding our social media reach by starting a Squidoo account. Squidoo is a cool website because you can create individual websites based on topics that you (and hopefully others) find important. We think Squidoo is the perfect forum for us to write our Plumbing How-Tos and provide valuable information to homeowners about their plumbing and drainage problems.

Squidoo is one of the top 300 websites in North America and one of the top 500 websites in the world. Drain Rescue is always looking for new ways to reach current (and potential) plumbing customers and we think Squidoo is a powerful tool in acheiving that objective.

The next time you find yourself on Squidoo, check out one of our plumbing lens’.

WATERPROOF YOUR HOME

Waterproof Your House

Waterproofing your home is a smart move. Yes, there’s an initial expense, but in the long run you save yourself money and a lot of trouble.

The (sorta) sunny skies of another Toronto summer are in the books, and now we’re experiencing the wreched rains of October, and with rains come floods, and with floods come ruined basements and belongings.

We here at Drain Rescue suggest you waterproof your house while the weather is still agreeable to do so. By waterproofing you are increasing the value of your home, and protecting all of your cherised belongings.

If you want a quote on waterproofing, give us a call at 416-480-0000 or you can also contact us via email at info@drainrescue.com

UKRAINIAN ORPHANAGE THANKS DRAIN RESCUE

Ukrainian Children Outside Orphanage

Here at Drain Rescue, we donate a portion of all of our plumbing and drain service calls to the “Children of Drain Rescue“. Today we received a dual surprise — we not only received an update from Diener, our sponsor child in Costa Rica, but we also received correspondence from our home of Ukrainian orphans.

In late 2008, we sponsored a Ukrainian Orphanage in conjunction with Life Nets. The orphanage we sponsor is run by a preacher and his wife, and they take care of abandoned and underprivileged children throughout the Ukraine. We were very happy to hear back from our orphanage and we especially thrilled with the udpated photos they sent us.

Take this time to enjoy the photos that our “Children of Drain Rescue” sent us.

And, remember, a portion of all services calls benefits the “Children of Drain Rescue”.

DenierUPDATE

We are excited to update our regular blog readers and let them know that we received a progress update from World Vision and our “Children of Drain Rescue” sponsor child, Deiner.

Deiner has informed us that:

- He is 6 years old and in kindergarten

- Likes to play with classmates

- At home he likes to play and help his parents

- His health is good

He has used or sponsorship funds to:

- Buy learning material

- Buy school supplies

- Provided training and workshops for the women of his village

We are so happy to hear that Deiner is doing well. That’s what it’s all about — helping the children one service call at a time.

BUYING A HOUSE? GET A PLUMBING INSPECTION

Buying a new house? Get a full plumbing inspection

Buying a new house? Get a full plumbing inspection

If you are buying a new home we suggest you get a full plumbing inspection. Plumbing isn’t like chipped tiles or a hole in the ceiling. You can’t see bad plumbing. You need a professional to camera the drains and check the pipes beneath the house to ensure you are not being sold a house with bad plumbing. It may seem like a minor inconvenience at the time, but it’s better to be safe than sorry.

Imagine moving into your dream home and then learning the piping beneath your basement floor needed to be replaced for $10,000? It would be both frusterating and heartbreaking. That’s why by spending a few hundred dollars for a plumbing inspection you are saving yourself the long-term heartache.

When conducting a Home Plumbing Inspection, we suggest the following:

1) Find the water meter and ensure the shut-off vavle is working correctly;

2) Check the water pressure by turning on all the taps and the bathtub / shower;

3) Crawl under the house and check the size of the water pipes; there should be a 1″ line from the water source;

4) Make sure the pipes are protected from freezing weather. This could include having the pipes wrapped or heated;

5) Check out the hot water heater and it’s capacity to hold water;

6) Verify the sewer system. Is it a septic tank? This is important because sewer repair can be costly;

7) Flush the toilets and make sure they empty properly;

If you are a new home owner and would like a plumbing inspection, give Drain Rescue a call at 1-800-568-7359 and we’ll be at your home within an hour.

CLOGGED WINDOW WELL DRAIN

Window Well Drain Clogged

Window Well Drain Clogged

Yesterday a customer sent us an email asking the following question, and we thought we’d share it with you:

Dear Drain Rescue,

I read your blog all the time, and have used your company on a couple different occasions. I am having a problem with my window well. The window well drain is clogged and I was wondering if you have any do-it-yourself suggestions I could use to improve the situation while I’m away on vacation. Once I get back from Jamaica, I’ll book an appointment and let teh professionals take over.

Thank you. Any suggestions are welcome.

Sincerely,

Nancy Travis-Meyers

Well, Nancy, we’re glad you sent us that inquiry. Window wells usually get filled up after heavy rains. Homeowners need to learn how to properly clean them, and that way they can embrace their window wells instead of complaining about them.

Window wells are important because they are preventative maintenance against moisture damage to basement windows. If you didn’t have them the moisture would work away at the windows and eventually make it’s way through and into your basement.

If your window well drain is clogged the easy solution is to remove the drain and clear it out yourlsef. However, if the drain is completely blocked and not draining to the weeping tile. If the window well drain is blocked that much then you may require a small excavation to replace the damaged piping.

We hope this answer will help you out, Nancy. And if you need help with your window well, feel free to contact us or give us a call at 1-800-568-7359

Toronto offers City Drain Root Grants

Do you have a city tree on your property that has caused tree roots to infiltrate your drains? Have you called a drain technician and found that all of your drain problems are on the “city side” of your property?

If so, then you may be eligible for a Toronto Drain Root Rebate Grant. This will entitle you to a portion of the money for the drainage repair you need to have done to your home. If it’s on the city’s side (or if your problems are caused by a city tree) then it’s the city’s responsibility to fix it.

All you need to do is fill out a Toronto Drain Grant form and that is the first step in assessing your eligibility.

If you need your drains inspected, or a plumbing assessment at your home then don’t hesitate to call Drain Rescue Plumbers, and we will be there instantly to serve all of your residential plumbing needs.
